More Music

Most. Half-Assed. Post. Ever. That’s what this is. But since no one but onthevirg has been commenting lately, I don’t really care. (Seriously, if you’ve been reading this blog and not commenting, you suck – how hard is it to just get on and say ‘hi’? I’m friendly…sort of.) Alright, let’s get to it.

So the weather in NY has been beautiful lately, and my music selections have been reflecting this. And with that in mind, here’s some of the goodness that I’ve been listening to on my iPod recently:

-Girls by the Beastie Boys: This song totally reminds me of college. I had to do a 15 minute documentary for an Intro to Film class, and I used this song over the title sequence – not surprisingly for those who read this blog, I decided to do my documentary on the differences between men and women. (Honestly, it’s just such an easy fallback topic when you can’t think of anything else…oops, I’ve said too much.)

-Three Little Birds by Bob Marley: Nothing gets you in the mood for good weather quite like Marley. I instantly feel like I’m in my bikini on a beach.

-Doin’ Time by Sublime: What would one of my lists be without a Sublime recommendation? This one is great – very mellow, yet I feel an insane urge to sing along whenever I hear it. “Summertime, and the living’s easy…”

-Fuel by Metallica: Just because I still don’t know how you wake up in the morning (no matter how nice it is outside) without Metallica.

-We Gotta Get Out of This Place by the Animals: This one is reserved specifically for just as I’m leaving work. So appropriate. Really puts a smile on my face.

-The Joker by the Steve Miller Band: Well fuck, this one’s just a flat-out good song. Who doesn’t like this one?

-Hot in the City by Billy Idol: Because starting around now, I’m going to be hot in the city. Might as well have my own personal theme music while I’m walking down the street.

-Low Rider by War: I think this is the Dazed and Confused factor – the moment I hear this song now I think of the last day of school, and that will ALWAYS mean summer to me.

-Paradise City by Guns ‘N Roses: While this song is great all year long, it does seem to get better as the weather heats up. (Note: Don’t trust anyone who doesn’t like Guns ‘N Roses – it’s not natural.)

-Everybody Wants You by Billy Squier: Not only is this one an awesome song, but it’s my own personal (internal) ego boost. EVERYONE should listen to this song EVERY day.

Alright, that’s enough for now - maybe more next week. What about everyone else? Any good music (that gets better in the summer) recommendations? I’ll try not to mock your choices.

Well I'm crushed. I'm not good enough anymore. Some seriously solid picks there. I think Low Rider is one of my favorite songs ever. Here's a couple:

- For Whom the Bell Tolls by Metallica: Song that has permanent status on the Ipod. Great for working out or getting fired up for something.

- Wisconsin Death Trip by Static-X: Ditto. Kinda nonsensical but just gets me going.

- Story of My Life by Social D: Great song to listen to when you're feeling nostalgic about the good old days. Also realized that I love listening to these guys but don't actually own any of their music.

- Time Bomb by Rancid: Just makes me think of summer for some reason. Hanging out by the pool and drinking some brews.

one more dying quail: There you go. Now was that so hard?

onthevirg: Quitcher bitchin.
For Whom the Bell Tolls- Trust me, it's on my iPod and I listen to it all the time - I just try to have only one song per band on my lists (and Fuel got the nod this time).
As for the rest, I'll give them a listen.

Screw you and your "hi".

I kid, I kid.

Good choices, though I must call shenanigans on Billy Squire. But that's just me. But otv is right ON with Social Distortion. And you just inspired me to go and download everything I can find from the Animals.

Christ, that is some of the worst music. Ever.

If you like all that stuff, I recommend:

"Tension" by Todd Snider
"Hell is Chrome" by Wilco
"Flappers" by Run Westy Run (you'll be able to download this one from my blog in a couple of days)

As far as commenting, you know, it wouldn't hurt to return the favor once in a while. As Pansy Division once said, "Reciprocate, reciprocate, unless you wanna go home and masturbate, reciprocate, oh yeah."

tk: What?! You seriously don't like Everybody Wants You? I refuse to believe it - you're just suppressing. Let your inner diva out. (And good call on The Animals, they're awesome.)

jez: Ouch. Double ouch. OK, besides the fact that you've trashed my taste in music (which you're wrong about by the way - I have ridiculously good taste in music and refuse to believe otherwise), I'm going to go and comment on everybody's blog who comments on mine. I am not a taker (I'm not a giver either, but c'est la vie).

I apologize. It's not that you like bad music, it's just that, well, you can pretty much hear those songs on any JACK or classic rock formatted radio station.

It's almost like saying, "I had a great meal today at this restaurant...it's called Pizza Hut."

Redhead said...

Alright, that's it - jez, you are officially on my list. Did you just equate my favorite music to Pizza Hut? You just called my favorite music crappy, greasy, mass produced shit?! Look, just because OTHER PEOPLE have also heard of and like some of this music (and it's good fucking music!), doesn't make it the Backstreet Boys.

Hi. I’m friendly....in that kind of, "Hey, I found these old bra's when I was going through your trash..." kinda way.

Outstanding Manny - you sound like you'll fit in well here. Welcome.

In the interest of full disclosure, you should probably know that... well... Manny's not kidding about the bra thing.

He's just that creepy. Awesomely creepy.

And jez's Pizza Hut comment was HI-larious.
